Tooth Whitening

Time, smoking, tea and coffee are just a few of the things that cause your teeth to yellow and discolour.

Whiter teeth can take years off your appearance. Although teeth themselves whiten well; any fillings or crowns will remain the same colour and may need replacing to match the new lighter colour of your teeth. The Harman Dental Clinic offers no less than four methods of tooth whitening and we will advise you of the most suitable solution for you. (See below for legal requirements on whitening)

Teeth Whitening Method 1: Professional Tray Whitening Overnight

A whitening gel is placed in a custom made thin transparent guard, which is worn for 14 daily 30 minute sessions. Your upper and lower teeth can be treated together. Once the trays have been custom made we invite you back to the clinic and demonstrate exactly how to use the trays and gel for the best results. The most common result is for your teeth to change at least six shades using this system.

We use Discus’s Nitewhite 10% Carbamine peroxide system with desensitiser

Teeth Whitening Method 2: Professional Tray Whitening 30 mins aday

A whitening gel is placed in a custom made thin transparent guard, which is worn for 14 nights, typically 3-4 nights a week for about a month. Your upper and lower teeth can be treated together. Once the trays have been custom made we invite you back to the clinic and demonstrate exactly how to use the trays and gel for the best results. The most common result is for your teeth to change at least six shades using this system.

We use Colgate’s 6% Hydrogen Peroxide Visible-White System with desensitiser

Teeth Whitening Method 3: Power Whitening in 1 hour

General Power Whitening is not available from 1 November 2012 under new UK Legislation. However if there is a specific clinical indication for whitening and a home procedure is not possible the procedure is still available. e.g. acute sensitively issues or the specific bleaching of one dark tooth. Ask for details.

WHITENING FEE GUIDE

*Note: Peroxide gel tooth whitening systems in the UK are only legally available from dentists, and only as part of a prescribed course of dental treatment and are not available on a casual basis. (Currently gel strengths are limited to 6% Hydrogen peroxide or 18% Carbamine peroxide from 1 Nov 2012 under new UK Legislation.) If you have had a full dental examination in the last 6 months from another UK dentist and are dentally fit we offer a free screening examination otherwise you will need to have a full new patient examination with us to assess your dental health and suitability for whitening (See our diagnostic fee guide.) In order to whiten your teeth effectively they must be free from stain/calculus. We include a polish to remove light stains and plaque, however your teeth have to have “tartar”/calculus removed first you will require a chargeable scale & polish or periodontal treatment first (oral health maintenance fees.)
