Amanda's Case
![]() |
IntroductionAmanda Collins a 34 year old mother of two girls came to see me in 2006 having had veneers fitted in 2003 which she was unhappy with. Amanda's original teeth were yellow and crossed-over. She travels a lot and also has an active social life and was becoming increasingly disappointed with the way she looked in photographs. The original veneers were fitted by a local high street dentist and cost about £250 a tooth. They looked yellowy/grey, uneven and constantly rubbed on her lower lip giving her a dry mouth. She had like many people assumed that all veneers are the same and put up with the result for three years until she had had enough. This year she was going have a dazzling smile for those Christmas parties. She came to me via internet research. |
The Process
Amanda's treatment started with an interview to determine what she wanted and what was actually achievable. Amanda wanted a really bright smile but not a "Hollywood" smile. She wanted it natural looking both in shape and colour not a row of uniform white blocks looking like chewing gum tablets. In Amanda's case we opted for 8 upper and 8 lower matching veneers. I always like to incorporate some of the best natural features of a patient's original teeth so that every case looks unique and their smile is in harmony with their face and personality. I produced a photo-simulation to determine whether the vision I had of her smile was the same one she was hoping for. Once the basic look of the smile was agreed I then made up full size wax models of the finished teeth and again discussed the fine details with her. My aim with Amanda, as with all my patients, was to be 98% sure of the smile I was going to create before I even picked up a drill. We booked in Amanda for her preparation appointment at which time we fitted provisional veneers. These were copied exactly from the wax models. This gave her a chance to see how the final teeth would look and feel and if her family and friends, as well as Amanda, liked her new smile. A week later I checked her provisionals and then fitted the final veneers knowing that everyone liked new look. Amanda and I were both thrilled with the final outcome and she now has a confident beautiful smile that she can enjoy everyday.
