Alya's Case

Alya came to me as she didn´t like smiling. Her teeth were yellow and one tooth had gone grey after root canal treatment. She was a single parent juggling a job in PR with looking after her daughters and trying to keep a normal social life, so she was very anxious to see if I could help.
I am pleased to say that Alya actually had the basis of a lovely smile and all she needed was a few simple treatments. To start with she has a thorough scale & polish. We then opted to use overnight tray whitening, as this gave her the best chance of a really deep lightening of the teeth. We did an initial course of 16 nights, then a further 10 before we were both happy with the colour.
The dark tooth was more of a problem. Sometimes you can get a reasonable result by a special inside-out bleaching process, but in her case the tooth was just too dark. She wanted it to look perfect. We therefore opted to use the new type of "Zirconia" porcelain crown, which is opaque enough to block out the dark tooth but with enough translucency to look vital, unlike the traditional metal framed porcelain crowns.
I also noted that the gum line draped down on the dark tooth so by a very simple electro-surgery procedure taking about 1 minute we aligned the gum with the other side (quite painless under local anaesthetic and almost no discomfort afterward.)
The crown took 3 visits to make, working with my technician Steve Rea. Once the crown was fitted to put the icing on the cake we made a subtle adjustment to the pointed eye tooth to line it up with the other side.
Alya was absolutely thrilled with the result and hasn´t stopped smiling since. People comment on her teeth now for all the right reasons, and it has transformed her confidence professionally and personally. She now runs her own business and enjoys life without worrying about her smile. Now in all her family photos she looks as happy as she feels.
